Home / For US law firms
We are a Canadian process server in Windsor, Ontario, across the river from Detroit. US attorneys, paralegals and process serving firms send us papers for people in Windsor and Essex County; we serve them in person and return a sworn affidavit.
US law firms, paralegals and process serving companies with a defendant, respondent or witness who lives or works in Windsor or Essex County, Ontario. Windsor faces Detroit across the Detroit River, linked by the Ambassador Bridge, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel and the Gordie Howe International Bridge, so plenty of Michigan and other US cases have someone on this side. We serve in Windsor and Essex County only, not in Michigan or anywhere else in the United States.
Canada has been a party to the Hague Service Convention since May 1, 1989. Alongside the Central Authority route, Article 10 keeps other channels open when the receiving country does not object, including service directly through judicial officers, officials or other competent persons of that country. Canada has declared no opposition to Article 10(a), (b) and (c). The Hague Conference's own page for Canada notes that "many businesses commonly referred to as 'Process Servers' serve judicial and extra-judicial documents, for a fee." That is the service we provide: personal service by a private process server in Ontario.
The Central Authority route is still there if your case calls for it; the Hague Conference lists Ontario's average time for it as 4 to 6 weeks. Whether direct service by a private process server satisfies your case depends on your court's rules and any order in your case, so check them before you send the papers. We do not give advice on US law.
